Email Setup Tutorial

How to set up a new "POP3" email account in Outlook Express

        Open Outlook Express:

        Choose TOOLS / ACCOUNTS at the top of the window

        Click the "Add" button
        Choose "Mail"

        Enter your name in the "Display Name" box
        Your email will show this name as the sender
        ***Example: "John Smith, JSD Incorporated"

        Click the "Next" button

        Enter the entire email address in the "E-mail address" box
        **Example: "Johnsmith@jsdinc.com"

        Click the "Next" button

        The box for "My incoming mail server is a" should have "POP3" selected
        In the "incoming mail server" box, type "mail.yourdomain.com"
        In the "outgoing mail server" box, type the same thing
        **Example: "mail.jsdinc.com"

        Click the "Next" button

        In the "Account name" box, type the entire email address
        **Example: "Johnsmith@jsdinc.com"
        In the "Password" box, type your password
        Be sure the "Remember password" box is selected

        Click the "Next" button
        Click the "Finish" button

        You should see the "accounts" window.
        Select the account you just created
        Click the "Properties" button

        Under the "General" tab, give your mail account a name
        (Do not change the "Name" or "Email address" boxes below!)
        **Example: John's work email"

        Under the "Servers" tab, select the box at the bottom
        that says "My server requires authentication"
        Click the "Settings" button
        Make sure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected

        Click "OK"

        Under the "Connection" tab, select the "Always connect using:" box
        Select your internet connection from the list

        Under the "Advanced" tab, in the "Delivery" section,
        select the box that says "leave a copy of messages on server"
        Select the "remove from server after" box, enter 1-30 days
        (This will allow you to get your mail from the web, even if you have
        already checked it from Outlook Express. ALso a good short term backup)

        Click "OK"

        Click "Close" on the "accounts" window

        YOU ARE DONE!

        To check your email, click the "send and receive" button
        or press "CTRL" and "M" on your keyboard!
